Contest #12: Win a 7′ White/Black Diffusion Parabolic Umbrella (a $120 Value)

In keeping with our Wedding Theme, this week’s contest asks you to send us your shots of a priceless moment from a wedding reception.

The prize for this challenge is a Westcott 7′ White/Black Diffusion Parabolic Umbrella. This classic photo umbrella features a 16-rib fiberglass framework and double wall shaft. It is ideal for softening and broadening bounced light while eliminating unwanted back-spill light. It even comes with a travel and storage case.

Enter your photo below using the form. Good luck!

For inspiration, check out Part 2 of Westcott Top Pro Jim Schmelzer teaching us how to setup our lighting during posed photos at the front of a church. After the setup, Jim will bring in his bride and groom to start shooting beautiful images. Jim is using our 7′ parabolic umbrella in this lighting setup.

The reception was coming to an end and the new bride and groom decided to steal a private and intimate moment outside on the patio in front of the firepit

This photo was taken using a westcott ICE as I had to be quick setting up my lighting! I love this portrait of these three children, You can feel a different personality from each of them. the strong hold from mothers arm moving out of frame also give a feeling of the chaos they are wanting to cause!

Only the Bride, Groom and their immediate families knew about a stunt cake beforehand. The silence lasted almost 5 minutes, then officiants brought in the real cake. Then everyone bursted into laughter.

I’ve seen many creative kisses between the bride and groom during wedding receptions. The one that stands out the most is the Superman Kiss late last year! Here’s the reaction from the Bride and her Bridesmaids as the Groom is being carried high in the air by his Groomsmen to “fly” in for a kiss!

At this wedding the DJ set the rules for retrieval of the garter. The groom had to approach the bride in whatever way he thought would impress her and the crowd. Then he would either get thumbs up approval, or thumbs down and have to try again. The groom strutted his stuff three times. He did everything from crazy dancing, to head stands and a game of leap frog. He was a great sport. The couple were so charismatic, the crowd couldn’t help but have a great time sharing in their joy. I also love that you can see the bride’s sneakers under her dress. 😀

Tech details: The camera was handheld, rear curtain sync, flash bounced from ceiling. ISO 1600, f2.8, 1/80

The bride met the ring bearer when she was his baby sitter. This was his attempt at break dancing.

This image of the bride and groom was captured after a sweet moment of feeding each the wedding cake. Since it there was no smashing the cake in the face, the groom received “boos” from the attendees. The groom had a little left over and tried to smear the cake on the brides face. A large chunk of the cake stayed on her nose, so he decided to help her out and get it off for her.

This couple had been wanting to get married for a long time. They had already given birth to a son, yet could never come up with enough scratch to put together the wedding they were hoping for. Then their prayers were answered winning a dream wedding giveaway that took place at a local bridal show. Many vendors contributed to making sure their day went without a hitch, whereas I donated the photography for this particular event. The expression of the bride in this shot during the garter removal was one of the more priceless expressions I have captured, but even better, is their son off to the left in the background, scrunching down, to get a better look at what dad was doing to his mom. Enjoy.

This image was taken in the bright sun, so, I had to make t work for me. This image was taken in front of the aptly named Blue Water Bridge, and yes, that water was that blue.

Well, this wedding was just awesome all the way around, but when it came time to cut the cake, there seemed to be a problem. No matter how hard they tried they just couldn’t cut through their first piece to feed each other. After a few minutes of trying really hard to saw out a piece, they suddenly remembered that the entire bottom was actually cardboard. Everyone had a pretty good laugh at that one and made for a most memorable cake cutting : )

Love the expression on their faces. On-camera bounced flash plus 2 monoblocs facing the dance floor for back lighting.

The bride got them new shoes for their honeymoon… custom colored with their names and wedding date – so cute! I love that they were excited to go!

I loved this image of the bride pretty much threatening the groom with a cake knife! Not romantic, but it is priceless! It was a really fun couple!
