Perhaps taking the idea of the contest to its extreme, this photo is of my niece on the day she was born. Baby Oona, & her proud father presenting her in the hospital room.

This was my grandson’s first birthday and first cake. The pictures were taken with a Sony Alpha a99 using a 50mm 1.4 lens and natural lighting.

A candid Sweet Sixteen photo. Unexpectedly the cupcake was pushed to her face and this is the split second shot I was able to get. How fun seeing teens having fun. f2.8 1/125 ISO 400 with speedlight flash bouncing from the ceiling.

    Miguel’s 18th Birthday. Shot using a gridded 24″ softbox.

It was my niece’s 16th birthday, and of course, she invited her first real boyfriend. I got the wild idea of recreating the scene from one for my favorite old movies. I just prayed that the table wouldn’t break!
We hid two gelled led lights in the cupcakes. I also had two flashes set up as backlights. We had a great time!!

My sons 15th birthday was this week and he decided to have an Airsoft – Call of Duty Party. Well when it came time for the cake the candles wouldn’t stay lit, so second best option was to shoot the candles off the cake.

1st ‘cake smashing’ birthday of my friend’s niece – sitting next to a giant window, with a speedlight bounced off the roof for fill light. She had the perfect expression of bliss and excitement!

This photo was taken of my nephew on his 1st birthday. It is a photo composite set up using a 30×30 inch softbox with 3 speedlights. 5 in 1 Westcott silver reflector for fill. I just love the two bottom teeth coming in!!! http://www.karenvaismanphotography.com

This was my nieces 1st birthday. They let her eat her own cake and she reached over to my brother (her dad) to give him a taste.

This is from my daughters 4th birthday. She kept hiding behind the balloons, and it annoyed me at 1st. I ended up using it to my advantage.
